Once upon a time, there lived a kind father who had several sons. The boys loved each other, but they fought all the time! They would argue about everything – whose turn it was to feed the chickens, who got the biggest piece of cake, and who had to clean their room first.
Their father felt sad watching his sons fight. He tried talking to them many times, saying things like “Please be nice to each other” and “Brothers should help each other, not fight!” But nothing worked. The boys kept arguing every single day.
One morning, the father had a brilliant idea. “Boys!” he called out. “I need you to go outside and collect some sticks for me. Bring me a big bundle!”
The sons ran outside, happy to have something fun to do together. They gathered up lots of sticks and tied them together with rope, making a thick bundle. Then they brought it to their father.
“Now,” said their father with a twinkle in his eye, “I want each of you to try to break this bundle in half.”
The oldest son went first. He grabbed the bundle with both hands and pulled as hard as he could. His face turned red, but the sticks wouldn’t break.
“Let me try!” said the second son. He was the strongest in the family. He used all his muscles and even jumped on the bundle, but it stayed perfectly together.
One by one, each son tried to break the bundle. They huffed and puffed, they twisted and pulled, but no matter how hard they tried, those sticks stayed strong together.
“Hmm,” said their father, scratching his chin. “Let me help you.”
He untied the rope and separated all the sticks. Now, instead of one thick bundle, there were many thin sticks lying on the ground.
“Try again,” he said, handing one single stick to each son.
SNAP! Each boy easily broke his stick in half. It was so simple!
The father smiled and sat down with his sons around him. “Do you see what just happened?” he asked gently.
The boys looked at the broken sticks, then at the rope that had held the bundle together.
“When all the sticks were together, they were super strong. None of you could break them, no matter how hard you tried. But when the sticks were apart and alone, they broke easily.”
The youngest son’s eyes grew wide. “Just like us!” he said.
“Exactly!” said their father. “When you boys work together and help each other, you’re like that strong bundle. You can handle any problem that comes your way. But when you fight and stay apart, you become weak, just like those single sticks.”
From that day on, whenever the brothers started to argue, one of them would remember the lesson of the sticks. They learned that by helping each other and working as a team, they could do amazing things together.
And their father? He was the happiest dad in the whole world, watching his sons grow up as best friends.
What We Learn ?
When we work together, we are strong. When we fight and stay apart, we become weak. Family and friends are always stronger when they help each other!
