The Rabbit’s Revenge

Posted on March 30, 2026 by Selected Best Stories

Deep in the heart of the Whispering Woods, where the trees hummed ancient songs and the rivers sparkled like diamonds, there lived a clever little rabbit named Coco. Coco had traveled all the way from the sunny meadows of France to build her dream home in this magnificent forest. She had dug herself the most beautiful burrow — with cozy rooms, a tiny bookshelf made of twigs, and a garden that bloomed with the freshest carrots, tomatoes, and sunflowers.

Every morning, Coco would hop around her garden, watering her plants and singing cheerfully to herself. Life was absolutely perfect.

But one Tuesday morning, something unexpected changed everything.

A big, clumsy bear named Bruno came stomping through the forest. Bruno was from the mountains of Canada — a friendly giant with a warm heart but enormous, thundering feet. He wasn’t a bad bear at all, just careless. And today, Bruno was very, very hungry.

“Where is that wild berry smell coming from?” Bruno muttered to himself, following his nose through the trees. “Oh my goodness, my tummy is absolutely growling!”

Without even glancing down, Bruno went crashing right through Coco’s garden. His massive paws crushed the vegetable patch. His enormous bottom sat straight on top of the burrow’s entrance, collapsing the walls. When he finally stood up, Coco’s beautiful home was nothing but a sad mess of dirt, broken twigs, and squashed tomatoes.

Bruno sniffed around, completely unaware of the disaster he had caused. “No berries here! I’ll look somewhere else,” he mumbled cheerfully, and wandered off whistling.

Poor Coco stood frozen at the edge of the trees, staring at the ruins of her home. Her little heart sank. Her bookshelf was destroyed. Her sunflowers were flattened. Her cozy burrow — gone.

“This is NOT right,” Coco declared, stamping her small foot firmly on the ground. “Just because Bruno is bigger than me doesn’t mean he can stomp all over my home and walk away! No, no, no. I am not going to let this slide.”

Coco sat quietly for a moment, thinking hard. Then — ping! — a brilliant idea sparkled inside her clever little head.

She worked through the afternoon and late into the evening, weaving together leaves, branches, and glowing fireflies to craft an extraordinary disguise. By morning, she was completely ready.

The next day, Bruno came stomping back through the same path, humming to himself. Suddenly, a deep, echoing voice boomed through the trees.

“BRUNO! You have angered the Spirit of the Whispering Woods!”

Bruno froze. His eyes went wide. “W-w-who’s there? What did I do?”

“You destroyed the home of an innocent rabbit!” the voice thundered. “Every creature in this forest is equal — whether they are big or small, whether they come from Canada or France or anywhere else in the world! You must fix what you have broken, or face the consequences!”

Bruno’s knees trembled like jelly. “Please, great Spirit, tell me what to do! I’ll fix everything, I promise!”

“Rebuild the burrow. Replant the garden. And apologize to the rabbit — only then will the forest forgive you.”

Just as Coco had planned, Bruno worked tirelessly all day long. He dug carefully, replanted every vegetable, and even added a little wooden door to the burrow entrance. By sunset, Coco’s home looked better than ever.

Bruno stood at the doorway, twisting his paws nervously. “Miss Rabbit… I fixed your home and replanted your garden. I’m truly sorry. I should have looked where I was going.”

Coco hopped forward with a warm smile. “Bruno, you worked so hard today. Thank you. Of course I forgive you!”

From that day on, Bruno always looked where he stepped, and the two became the best of friends in the Whispering Woods.

The moral of the story is  Stand up for yourself with courage and cleverness — because being small never means being powerless. And remember, every creature in this world, no matter where they come from, deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.
