Once upon a time, near a thick forest, there was a peaceful village. In this village stood an old well that nobody used anymore. The well was deep and had very slippery walls. One sunny day, a clever fox named Rocky was hunting for food. He was so busy looking around for his next meal that he didn’t notice the old well, and splash! He fell right into it!
Poor Rocky tried and tried to climb out. He scratched at the slippery walls with his paws, but every time he climbed up a little, he would slide right back down. Hours passed, and Rocky was getting tired. But then, his clever mind started working. He realized he couldn’t get out by himself, so he decided to wait for someone to pass by, hoping he could trick them into helping him escape.
It was now afternoon, and the sun was blazing hot. Just then, a thirsty goat named Milly was wandering around, desperately looking for water. When Milly reached the old well, she peeked inside to see if there was any water. That’s when she spotted Rocky standing in the water below. Milly was very surprised and asked what Rocky was doing down there and whether he had fallen into the well.
This was Rocky’s chance! His clever plan was ready. Rocky smiled and told Milly that he hadn’t fallen at all. He said the water in the well was the sweetest and coolest water he had ever tasted, and on a hot day like this, it felt like drinking nectar from heaven. He invited Milly to jump in and try it for herself. Milly was so thirsty, and Rocky’s words sounded so wonderful. Without thinking carefully about what might happen, she jumped right into the well with a big splash!
Milly landed in the water and quickly drank and drank until her thirst was completely gone. The water was indeed refreshing! But then, when Milly tried to climb out, she realized she had a big problem. She pushed and pulled, but just like Rocky, she couldn’t climb up the slippery walls. Milly was very worried and started to cry. She realized that Rocky had tricked her, and now she was stuck too!
Rocky stayed calm and told Milly not to panic because he had a wonderful plan. He explained that Milly should stand up on her back legs and stretch her neck up as high as she could. Then Rocky would climb onto her back, jump off her head, and leap out of the well. He promised that as soon as he got out, he would find a rope or get help to pull her out too. Sweet, simple Milly believed Rocky’s promise. She did exactly what he said, standing on her back legs and stretching her neck up high.
Rocky cleverly climbed onto Milly’s back, then stepped on her head, and with one powerful jump, he leaped out of the well and landed safely on the ground above! As soon as Rocky got out of the well, he started walking away into the forest. Milly shouted after him, asking him to wait and reminding him that he had promised to help her get out. Rocky turned around with a big grin on his face and laughed. He told Milly that if she had a little bit of sense, she would have thought before jumping in. He said it’s easy to jump into trouble, but getting out is the hard part. With that, Rocky ran away into the forest, leaving poor Milly trapped alone in the dark well.
